Child Specialist
When families are experiencing transition caused by separation or divorce, it can be a scary and unpredictable season.
Many individuals wonder about what life will look like after the transition is complete - where they will live,
what they will be able to afford, which shared friends they will remain in contact with. For those who are parents,
the uncertainties extend to where the children will spend their time, how they will handle the divorce emotionally,
and what impact it will have on them later in life.
For some, the prospect of hiring attorneys and going to court makes an already difficult situation seem overwhelming.
For those individuals, collaborative law provides an alternative. It is process by which couples can divorce through
confidential proceedings that do not take place in court. The individuals work with a team of lawyers, financial planners,
mental health professionals, and child specialists to negotiate fairly and respectfully. One of the primary goals is to
protect children and to develop a parenting plan that can be used to co-parent respectfully after the proceedings end.
It is a model that truly minimizes the negative impact of divorce upon children and helps all individuals, whether they are
parents or not, leave the relationship with their dignity and respect intact.
Link Therapy and Mediation provides the Child Specialist service on a Collaborative Practice team.
